Phoenix, the French pop band, was in Chicago tonight for an XRT show at the Aragon Ballroom. I photographed the first three songs they played which were: Lisztomania (one of my favorites off of their latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix), Long Distance Call, and Lasso. The back lighting made it tough to get great shots but I did my best with what I had to work with.

I bought a new Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens today for the show and loved it. I was a little skeptical at first because I had not photographed a show with a fixed focal length lens before. It takes a little getting used to because you have to move around a lot more to get the shot you want. I have heard great things about the 50mm f/1.4 lens but if you are on a tight budget the 1.8 will work just fine. It has a quick auto-focus and takes super crisp photos. I highly suggest the lens to anyone who is into concert photography or needs to shoot in low light.
