Sam Roberts Band at Subterranean

The Sam Roberts Band made a stop at Subterranean in Chicago last night. Their faithful Chicago followers, and many from out of town, came out and packed the place to hear Sam and the band play a great mix of music off of their latest and earlier albums. The band was energetic and played two encores. They have one more stop on their tour tonight in Detroit at the Fillmore before returning to their homes in Canada.

The band was last in town for Lollapalooza and I was lucky enough to help film their interview with Marty Lennartz backstage in the XRT Radio Compound. It was a miserably hot day but Sam and Dave were nice enough to perform two songs off of their album Love At The End of the World. They played acoustic versions of “Love At The End Of The World” and “Words and Fire”. Take notice that Dave duct taped the second microphone to his leg to pick up the acoustic guitar. As a graphic designer I love to collect concert posters from the shows I go to. Sam Roberts Band current tour poster is definitely one that I had to have. I learned the story behind the two poster matching set from bassist James Hall. They were created by two roommates who collaborated in a competitive nature to create them. Looking at the posters you can tell that they were created by two different designers with two different styles. They used the same color palette, typography across the top of the poster, and line up a number of elements to make a seamless transition across both posters. Their store offers the original prints and also has a special limited edition signed version as well.
